The method comprises subjecting a mold cavity (14) with a negative pressure by using a vacuum system, and varying the suction capacity of the vacuum system during aerating the mold cavity. Several suction capacity curves, which represent a progression of the suction capacity in each case during the aeration of the mold cavity, are stored. A user gives suction capacity curves for selection and if necessary accesses a suction capacity curve from the storage for controlling the suction capacity of the vacuum system. The suction capacity of the vacuum system is increased during aeration. The method comprises subjecting a mold cavity (14) with a negative pressure by using a vacuum system, and varying the suction capacity of the vacuum system during aerating the mold cavity. Several suction capacity curves, which represent a progression of the suction capacity in each case during the aeration of the mold cavity, are stored. A user gives suction capacity curves for selection and if necessary accesses a suction capacity curve from the storage for controlling the suction capacity of the vacuum system. The suction capacity of the vacuum system is increased during aerating the mold cavity. A minimum suction capacity is selected to begin the aeration, is increased during the aeration and adopts a maximum value at the end of the aeration. The suction capacity varies in a time-dependent manner, and in dependent upon the position of an injection piston (21) of a casting device (10). The amount of air sucked-off during the aeration detects from the same per time unit. The amount of air sucked off per time unit graphically indicates on an indicator, compares with given limit values and controls in dependent of the result of the comparison of signaling devices. An independent claim is included for: (1) a vacuum system for aerating a mold cavity of a casting device; and (2) a casting device.
