The humidifier (1) has a mixing chamber (4) for mixing input gases (3) with vapor (14) of liquid (7) i.e. raw water. A heater (12) heats a digester (6) connected to a control device (27) to control the heater. The chamber, digester, heater and the device (27) are arranged to produce a gas mixture oversaturated with the vapor during a humidification operation. A condensation chamber (18) arranged between the chamber (4) and a gas outlet (24) provides an output gas (25) during the operation by condensation of an oversaturated humidity from the mixture and discharges condensate. An independent claim is also included for a method for humidification of respiratory gas stream.
