The method involves carrying out track displacement from a tread roller (28) of a tread design roller set to an arbor in a region of an open end of cup-shaped sheet metal parts to be shaped (12.1-12.4). A target profile is adjusted at the open end of the sheet metal parts of a corresponding internally and externally toothed region by pressure discharge and removal of the toothed sheet metal parts. The sheet metal parts together with the arbor are compressed by the roller set rolling up on the sheet metal parts by exerting radial pressure. An independent claim is also included for a device for production of an internally and externally toothed cup-shaped sheet metal part with teeth running parallel to a cup center axis.
