The method comprises cooling helium stream (1) in a heat exchanger against a fluid helium stream (6, 7) so that the pollutant freezes on the cold surface of the heat exchanger. The cleaned helium stream (2, 3, 4) condenses and is brought again to a helium consumer. The cleaned helium stream is analyzed and external helium (9) is feed to the cleaned helium stream in dependent upon the determined composition and/or purity of the cleaned helium stream. A partial flow of the fluid helium stream brought to the heat exchanger is used as helium to be feed. The method comprises cooling helium stream (1) in a heat exchanger against a fluid helium stream (6, 7) so that the pollutant freezes on the cold surface of the heat exchanger. The cleaned helium stream (2, 3, 4) condenses and is brought again to a helium consumer. The cleaned helium stream is analyzed and external helium (9) is feed to the cleaned helium stream in dependent upon the determined composition and/or purity of the cleaned helium stream. The regeneration of the heat exchanger loaded with pollutants is carried out in dependent upon the determined composition and/or purity of the cleaned helium stream through leading over a gaseous helium stream.
