The method involves controlling the power output or power input of an electric motor such that the power output of an internal combustion engine is controlled on load points (LP2), which are optimal for operating condition of the engine to make the total power of a hybrid vehicle to become constant, where the total power is composed of power of the electric motor and the power of the engine. The engine is controlled at the load point (LP2) in which the combustion process of the engine is optimized regarding fuel consumption or exhaust gas emissions.
