A method involves defining the geographic zone of the reservoir by selecting a set of grid cells of the geological model. The lithologic facies are grouped together in a group of facies. The facies are grouped together in a second group within the first group. A transformation parameter is defined by a ratio of an average proportion of the second group's facies to the first group. The proportions in the two groups are transformed to impose a fixed value for the ratio at each cell of the geographic zone. A new geological model is simulated that is constrained by the transformed proportions.
