The method involves placing a temperature sensor at a level of a white power LED, and regulating current supply of the LED by shifting between two modes with respect to a temperature (5) measured by the sensor. Regulation of current of the LED is carried out based on a current setpoint (2) in case of a non-attained critical temperature (1). Regulation of the current of the LED is carried out based a temperature setpoint (3) in case of an attained critical temperature (4).
