There is provided a method of establishing a communication path between a first communication subnetwork and a second communication subnetwork via a third communication subnetwork, said intermediate subnetwork, in an extended communication network (3000). More precisely, to establish the communication path, an input tunnel head (320) of said intermediate subnetwork comprising at least two tunnel heads: - receives, from a tunnel of said input tunnel head, a relay activation message for establishing said path, a relay, referred to as a local relay, to which said message involving said input tunnel head refers; tunnel head of said intermediate subnetwork, called output tunnel head (321), involved in the local relay; - activates the relay for part of said path between said first subnet and said second subnetwork transmits the relay activation message to said output tunnel head (321).
