PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cultivating and harvesting rice plants under an artificial environment in a short period at a low cost. PSOLUTION: The method for cultivating and harvesting rice plants includes cultivating a plurality of kinds of rice plants in a day-length condition of 10 h light period, using blue light LED, and as a result, a heading time becomes earlier than that of the same condition with white light in a certain rice plant (Nipponbare, Norin No.8), and also when a blooming promoting gene such as Hd1 gene and Ehd1 gene is introduced, the number of grains of one head decreases. Subsequently, the method includes cultivating rice plants by changing the planting density, and as a result, compared to rice plants raised at a normal planting density, rice plants raised at an overcrowded density have the total number of unhulled rice per unit area, larger than at a normal planting density, and the number of heads per individual decreases. Furthermore, when cultivating rice plants by irradiating it with blue light and changing a planting density, dense planting enables more efficient cultivation even with single blue light.
