PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of determining the current utility of words dependent on a current language material and learner's current and changing knowledge state.;SOLUTION: A computer-implemented vocabulary learning method is provided wherein a text comprises a plurality of words. The method includes: an assignment step of assigning, for each of at least some of the words in the text, a status to the word in dependence upon first, second and third measures for the word; and a communication step of communicating the assigned status to the learner at least if requested. The assigned status is selected from a plurality of predetermined statuses. Each status is associated with at least one corresponding recommended action to be taken by the learner. The first measure is dependent on the learner, the second measure is independent of the text, and the third measure is dependent on the other words in the text.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
