PSOLUTION: The cathode active material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery, in a lithium-containing layer-like oxide LiSBa/SBNaSBb/SBMSBc/SBoSB2/SB(0.5a1.3, 0b0.01, 0.90c1.10, 00.3, M is at least an element selected from manganese, cobalt, nickel, iron, aluminum, molybdenum, zirconium and magnesium) that belongs to a space group P6SB3/SBmc, has the mol ratio of lithium and M to be "a", "c", respectively, and the ratio of "a", when "c" is converted into 1.0, to be in a range of 0.08a0.12 in case a potential P(V) is 4.8P5.0 (vs.Li/LiSP+/SP), or to be in a range of 1.05a1.15 in case a potential P(V) is 2.0P2.5 (vs.Li/LiSP+/SP).
