PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manage an enormous number of medical images efficiently by automatically extracting imaging attribute information such as an imaging device, a region and an imaging direction from the medical images via image processing and adding it to management information. SOLUTION: A template image storing part 14 stores template images about categories to be identified for every sort. An image sorting part 11 sorts an input image by management information on and image size of a medical image. A template image selecting part 13 selects template images about a plurality of categories as candidates in identification from the template image storing part 14 with the use of the sorting result of the input image. An image identifying part 12 compares the selected template images and the input image to determine the category of the most corresponding template image. A management information adding part 15 adds imaging attribute information on the template image of the identified category to the management information.
