PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve emulsion stability and to provide paper with excellent sizing properties in a sizing agent of an alkenylsuccinic anhydride (ASA)-based aqueous emulsion. ;SOLUTION: This ASA-based emulsion sizing agent is obtained by passing ASA and an aqueous solution of an amphoteric (meth)acrylamide polymer through a high-shear type rotary emulsifier constituted of a stator in which plural ring-shaped bodies are concentrically fixed to the side of an emulsifer body of the emulsifier and a stator in which plural ring-shaped bodies are concentrically fixed to the side of a revolving shaft of the emulsifier and emulsifying and dispersing ASA into water by high shear forces produced between the stators and the ring-shaped bodies. When ASA and the aqueous solution of the amphoteric polymer are emulsified and dispersed through the high-shear type rotary emulsifier, since the emulsion is provided with a proper emulsified particle diameter and a particle size distribution in a relatively narrow range, stain of papermaking system can be decreased and paper is supplied with high sizing properties even by using a small amount of the sizing agent.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
