PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a butt joint manufacturing method and friction stir welding equipment which enable butting parts to be prevented from opening even if each member to be joined is lengthy.;SOLUTION: In the butt joint manufacturing method, two belt-like members 1, 1 to be joined (members) are butted on each other in the side edges to be joined which correspond to each other. To the rear end of both members 1, 1, a restraining fixture 50A is attached for preventing the butting part 4 of the members 1, 1 from opening. Then, the probe 22 of a friction stir welding tool 20 is buried in the butting part 4 of the members 1, 1. In this condition, the members 1, 1 are moved so that the butting part 4 passes through the probe 22 successively.
