PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method by which an N-spiro-quaternary ammonium salt useful as a phase transfer catalyst and having axial asymmetry is obtained in high purity and high yield by a shortened process; and to provide an intermediate used for the method.;SOLUTION: The method for producing the N-spiro-quaternary ammonium salt having the axial asymmetry comprises reacting a binaphthyl compound represented by formula (I) with a compound represented by ArB(OH)₂ (representative example: Ar is 3,5-dimethylphenyl group), reducing the obtained compound to substitute the alkoxycarbonyl group with a halogenomethyl group, and reacting an S-isomer or R-isomer of 1,2-dihydro-7H-dinaphto[2,1-c:1'2'-e]azepine.
