Disclosed are formaldehyde-free, thermally curate, alkaline, aqueous binder compositions, curable to formaldehyde-free, water-insoluble thermoset polyester resins. The composition comprises polyatomic hydroxy component polymer polyol and also a polyacid component selected from the group comprising dicarboxylic acid, tricarboxylic acid, tetracarboxylic acid, pentacarboxylic acid, salts thereof, anhydride derivatives thereof, and combinations thereof. The ratio of the number of molar equivalents of said acid groups, or anhydride or salt derivatives thereof, to the number of molar equivalents of said hydroxyl groups of the polyatomic hydroxy component is in the range from about 0.6 : 1 to about 1.2 : 1. The composition is used as binders for non-woven fibers and fiber materials.
