The present invention relates to a method for metallizing a polymer, wherein the polymer is treated in succession • with at least one compound having at least one amine group, • with a compound having at least one functional group being suitable to perform an addition reaction with the amine group, • with a solution containing at Least one metal salt selected from the group consisting of a silver salt, a copper salt, and a nickel salt, and a complexing agent, and • with at least one reducing agent. Also, the present invention relates to polymers metallized according to this method as well as their use for the antimicrobial treatment of liquid in liquid-guiding systems or for the production of socks, insoles, clothing, covering textiles for seating furniture or mattresses.
