A lighting equipment on a sewing machine, comprising an arm (1) having a needle bar (5) and an illuminated work area which is allocated to the needle bar (5), characterized in that the needle bar (5) is at least bilaterally surrounded by several light emitting diodes (28, 29, 30, 37) which are disposed in the at least one lighting device (18, 35) to illuminate the work area substantially shadowlessly, in that the at least one lighting device (17, 35) comprises a casing (19, 36), in which several light emitting diodes (28, 29, 30,37) are respectively grouped and held, in that the casing (19) of at least one lighting device (18) is mounted on the bottom side (21) of the arm (1) of the sewing machine.
