Pharmaceutical compositions comprising casein derived peptides and methods of use thereof in decreasing dry period of lactation cycle in cows and increasing milk production

Disclosed is a method for reducing the length of the dry period between cycles of lactation of livestock animals, in particular cows, using peptides derived from casein. The peptides can be obtained by hydrolysis of casein or synthetically constructed wherein at least one peptide is a phosphopeptide comprising the amino acid sequence Ser(p)-Ser(p)-Ser(p)-Glu-Glu. The said method claims to increase milk production and the hygiene of the milk with decreased somatic cell counts in the milk. The method also claims the use of said peptides for the prevention and treatment of suffering in livestock animals associated with mammary gland infection or abrupt cessation of milking.
