The invention relates to a process for the bioremediation of waste water resulting from chemical and pharmaceutical industry, by using biofilter-type systems. According to the invention, the process consists in isolating and selecting a microbial consortium adapted to the polluting factor subjected to bioremediation, obtaining the inoculum by various methods, depending on the type of microorganisms employed, obtaining the microbial biomass by centrifugation, immobilizing the microbial cells on various adsorbent carriers, such as shell sand, within a system of columns and drip pan and recycling the effluent subjected to bioremediation through said columns, 10 to 20 times, the concentration of the organic substance dissolved in the effluent being determined by the oxidation of substances with KMnO4, in an alkaline solution.
