A method of performing a rapid assay for the simultaneous detection anddifferentiation of the analytes HIV-1 group M, HIV-1group O and HIV-2 utilizing a sequence specific polypeptide of each analyte ascapture reagents. An analytical device also is provided forperforming the method which includes these capture reagents. Also provided isa test kit which includes the analytical device which furthercan include a positive and negative control.
