A method and kit for detection and identification in a test sample of hMPV,are described, as is a set of sequencesand their use as amplification primers for hMPV. hMPV amplification accordingto the present invention is compatible withdetection of other viruses that cause respiratory tract infections, as well aswith genotyping of hMPV present in the sample. Aftersubjecting the test sample to amplification with primers specific for eachvirus, single-stranded DNA is obtained from the amplificationproducts, and hybridised to virus-specific probes.
