The invention relates to a method for optimizing the traffic control at a traffic signal-controlled intersection (K) in a road traffic network (N), wherein the vehicle traffic in entrances (1) to the intersection (K) are controlled by signal groups (s) of a traffic signal system according to associated signal times, wherein for vehicles approaching the signal group (s), traffic parameters (ws (t), hs (t)) are determined from traffic data using a traffic model according to the signal times, and wherein in order to determine optimal signal times, the traffic parameters (ws (t), hs (t)) are weighted and added up and the target function (PI) formed in such a way is optimized by varying the signal times. By individually determining the traffic parameters (ws (t), hs (t)) for each vehicle and individually weighting said traffic parameters according to the strategic relevance thereof for the implementation of a specified traffic strategy, an improved implementation of the specified traffic strategy is made possible.
