The damper has a working cylinder (2) closed at an end side by a piston rod guide (3) which centers and seals an axially movable piston rod. A piston is fixed at the rod and divides the cylinder into upper and lower working spaces. A buffer is in the form of compression spring (5) and arranged in the upper working space. A front surface (6) of the guide facing the spring has a projection (7) that runs in a direction of the spring. The projection is designed in a V-shape in cross section and arranged such that a line contact is provided between the projection and the spring.
