The method involves correcting an injection volume of a cylinder. A predetermined corrected value is divided to determine a distribution factor, where the distribution factor corresponds to a ratio of difference of active fuel injection amount and predetermined minimum amount of fuel injection (q-Min) and a sum of difference of an effective value of the active injection and assigned minimum amount of the fuel injection. The corrected value is partially assigned to single injection. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program for performing a method for controlling an internal combustion engine (2) a computer program product with a program code stored on a machine readable medium for performing a method for controlling an internal combustion engine.
