Method for producing surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy substrate for detecting analytes, involves exposing region of metal film with laser pulse that has pulse length between one nanosecond and one microsecond
The method involves providing a carrier with a flat carrier surface, and coating a region of the carrier surface with a noble metal film. A region of the metal film is exposed with a laser pulse (12) that has a pulse length between 1 nanosecond and 1 microsecond, a wavelength between 150 and 1100 nanometers and fluence of greater than 20 millijoules per square centimeter. The carrier surface is made of glass i.e. quartz glass, silicon or plastic, and the laser pulse is provided with a homogenous beam profile. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy substrate comprising a nanostructured surface (2) a method for detecting analytes.
