The device has two connections (H1, H2) for supplying a measuring electronics (M) and an operation electronics (B) with auxiliary energy. The supply of the auxiliary energy takes place by transmission of a measuring signal and process-relevant data in a separate manner. A control unit temporarily displaces the measuring electronics and/or operation electronics in a stand-by mode. Determination of a measured variable, production of the measuring signal and/or transmission of the measuring signal are adjusted in the stand-by mode. The control unit is a part of the operation electronics. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a measuring device.
