The method involves determining starting condition, processing step and a resulting state for basic activities. The resulting state is produced during execution of process or treatment steps based on the starting condition. An identifier and/or an identification marking such as number are assigned for the basic activities. Process characteristics such as duration, cost, quality and amount for the basic activities are detected, and material for the basic activities is selected. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for automatic generation of workflows from a predetermined basic activities (2) a system for automatic generation of workflows from a predetermined basic activities.
