Internal-combustion engine operating method for motor vehicle, involves determining parameter characterizing actual extent of scavenging based on amplitude of signal fluctuations of lambda signal of lambda sensor
The method involves overlapping opening intervals of an inlet valve (13) and an outlet valve (14) such that fresh air flows from the inlet valve to the outlet valve. The inlet and outlet valves are attached to a combustion chamber. Oxygen in exhaust gas is detected by a lambda sensor (23). A parameter e.g. pressure or temperature, characterizing actual extent of scavenging is determined based on amplitude of signal fluctuations of a lambda signal (61) of the lambda sensor. The opening intervals of the valves are adjusted depending on the determined parameter. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program comprising a set of instructions to perform a method for operating an internal-combustion engine (2) an electrical storage medium comprising a set of instructions to perform a method for operating an internal-combustion engine (3) a controlling and/or regulating device for a motor vehicle.
