The structure (38) has U-shaped supporting frames (2) with two side faces and curved at sectional strips (18). The side faces are connected over a cross strut (24). A support strut retainer (40) is attached with support points (50, 52) for supporting support struts (54, 56) of a headrest (58) at the cross strut such that the support points are upwardly or downwardly displaced with respect to the cross strut. The strut retainer is attached to the cross strut of the supporting frames using riveting, clinching, caulking, soldering, welding and/or bonding processes. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing a support structure for a backrest of a motor vehicle seat.
