The method involves applying, in closed loop, a braking torque (C-F) and an engine torque (C-M) to a low adhesion drive wheel (Rfa), where the engine torque is obtained by a regulation depending on a sliding level of a high adhesion drive wheel (R-FA). The engine torque applied to the high adhesion drive wheel with an open loop regulation is maintained constant or reduced when the engine torque is higher than a determined upper value or a determined lower value and an engine speed is higher than a determined threshold, if the sliding level is lower than another determined threshold. An independent claim is also included for a system for automatically regulating an engine torque and a braking torque of a vehicle running at a speed higher than a determined threshold, during asymmetrical sliding phases of drive wheels of the vehicle.
