PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for inexpensively counting trees of each species in the whole or arbitrary area of a wide forest.;SOLUTION: The tree counting method and the tree counting apparatus are characterized by comprising a top image data creation part 41 for extracting each top from photographic image data imaging a region including a forest from above, a crown image data creation part 42 for extracting each crown, a crown information image data creation part 43 for creating information including a sunny part of each crown, a species classification image data creation part 44 for identifying the species of each crown by spectral reflectance characteristics of the sunny area of the crown, a top-specific species classification image data creation part 45 for identifying the species of each top, and a tree counting part 50 for counting trees of each species in an entire or arbitrary area of the forest region.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
