PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus which enable the automatic retrieval of the optimal position of an electrode placed in a trunk in a method for acquiring information on a visceral fat tissue of the trunk and/or a subcutaneous fat tissue layer based on the impedance of the trunk determined by impressing current to a current impressing electrode couple for running current through the trunk for measuring a potential difference generated in a voltage measuring electrode couple.;SOLUTION: A multi-electrode comprising a plurality of electrodes as one current impressing electrode block is kept in contact with the trunk and current is impressed across it and the other current impressing electrode block switching the electrodes of the multi-electrode sequentially to measure the impedance with the voltage measuring electrode couple thereby determining the optimum electrode out of those of the multi-electrode from changes in the values indicated by the impedance measured. When current is impressed across the optimum electrode thus determined and the voltage measuring electrode on the other side, the information on the visceral fat tissue of the trunk and/or the subcutaneous fat tissue layer can be obtained from the impedance measured by the voltage measuring electrode couple.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
