PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for retrieving synchronizing words in decoding a data stream constituted of unique synchronizing words and encoded data capable of preventing the generation of any non-decoded encoded data by read ing back data by the prescribed number of bits at the time of detecting any error in the decoded data, and then retrieving the synchronizing words.;SOLUTION: This method comprises a step for reading a data stream in a buffer memory, a step for retrieving synchronizing words in the data stream read in the buffer memory, a step for retrieving the synchronizing words in the data stream, and for decoding following encoded data, a step for detecting any error in the decoded data of the encoded data, and a step for reading back the data in the buffer memory by the prescribed number of bits at the time of detecting any error in the encoded data, and for returning to the step for retrieving the synchronizing words.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
