The present invention relates to a new therapeutic application of the ethanolic extract of fruit of Solarium xanthocarpum containing active compound(s) effective in inhibiting the growth of Vibrio cholerae, a pathogenic bacterium. It also relates to a new therapeutic application of ethanolic extract of leave of Solarium xanthocarpum containing active compound(s) effective in inhibiting the growth of the same pathogenic bacterium. The invention particularly can be used to prepare a pharmaceutical composition useful as a natural antibiotic to inhibit the growth of Vibrio cholerae.
