摘要
Cationic guar derivatives are synthesized by reacting guar gum with 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyltrimethylammonium chloride. Guar gum is a nonionic hydrocolloid obtained from the ground endosperm of the legume Cyamopsis tetragonolobus (L) Taub., an annual plant, which grows mainly in arid and semi-arid regions. The carbohydrate part (80 to 85%) of guar gum consists of a high molecular weight polysaccharide composed of galactopyranose and mannopyranose units combined through .glycosidic linkages known as galactomannan. Modification of guar galactomannan significantly improves the important properties of unmodified gum. Due to the cationic in nature it has increased compatibility with most anionic and amphoteric materials which gives excellent performance in paper manufacturing applications.
