A tool used to wind a tail end of wire around a main body of wire, and a method of using the tool is disclosed, The tool comprises a single hardened piece of steel with magnetic inserts on each face, where the magnetic inserts allow the tool to remain attached to the wire while winding, and a bevelled working mouth in the upper part of the tool. The bevelled mouth connects and holds the tail end of the wire while it is being wound round the main body of wire.
