A devices and implements for staving off monsters, specters, demons andthe like as imagined by a child at bedtime. A hand-held controller unit (200)isprovided having a user interface (220) and which is capable of being used bythechild under the bed covers (152) of a bed (150). The hand-held controller unit(200) may include any of a walkie-talkie capability, a flashlight capability,anightlight capability, the capability to activate an external device (400),and othercapabilities. At least one external device (400) may be provided. The externaldevice (400) may be capable of being placed beneath the bed (150) and isconfigured to be activated by the hand-held controller unit (200). At leastonesubstantially hollow air-through member (600) may be provided which isconfigured to facilitate airflow between underneath the bed covers (152) ofthebed (150) and above the bed covers (152) of the bed (150). A supplemental bedcover (900) may be provided that is configured to be placed on the bed.
