Disclosed is an inter-cell interference mitigation method using a spatial covariance matrix (SCM) estimation method of an MIMO-OFDM communication system for mitigating asynchronous cell interference. The inter-cell interference mitigation method comprises the steps of: estimating a channel by extracting a reference symbol (RS) signal of a received OFDM symbol; estimating an initial SCM by using the RS signal and the channel estimation resu estimating an SCM by applying a time domain sync type weighting to the initial SCM; and demodulating a data symbol with mitigated inter-cell interference by using the channel estimation result and the estimated SCM. By applying the time domain sync type weighting to the SCM estimation, the method can reduce errors in SCM estimation which are caused by the spectral leakage according to sudden signal changes at the border point between a valid carrier zone and a guard band zone, and can allow a simple design in the form of a moving average filter for a frequency-domain signal instead of a frequency-time-frequency domain conversion using IFFT and FFT.
