METHOD FOR RECONSTRUCTING AND PROTECTING THE FOREDUNE OF A SAND BEACH

The invention relates to conservation, more specifically to the reconstruction of the foredune of a sand beach following storm damage and the reinforcement of said foredune with materials that are not harmful to the environment and without the use of heavy equipment; however, the proposed method can also be applied to other surfaces and using heavy equipment. The proposed method is characterized in that the following operations are carried out in sequence: a flexible foundation of gabions (2) is established, which is sufficiently wider than the thickness of the protecting wall for the edge of the gabion (2-1) to be able to incline freely towards a trench (V) which may be hollowed out at the foundations by a storm and to reliably protect the surface beneath the protecting wall against washout. On the side of the foundation closest to the dune, an inclined, vaulted dune protecting wall is built out of small interlocking blocks (1) arranged progressively in layers (J) and made into a monolithic structure, the dune side of the protecting wall being provided with a filter made of a geofabric (3). Each subsequent upper layer of the protecting wall is built once the wind has blown the sand (S) behind the built layer of the wall to the top thereof.
