Oleanane Triterpene Saponin Compounds for the Treatment of Dementia and Mild Cognitive Impairment and Improving Cognitive Function

A pharmaceutical composition comprising an oleanane triterpene saponin compound is provided to show excellent memory improving effect, thereby being useful as treating medicines and health foods for dementia and mild cognitive impairment. The pharmaceutical composition comprises an oleanane triterpene saponin compound represented by the formula(1) as an effective ingredient. In the formula(1), each R1, R2 and R3 is independently H or C1-4 alkyl, R4 is C1-4 alkyl or C1-4 hydroxyalkyl, and each R5 and R6 is independently H or sugar, wherein at least one of the R5 and R6 is sugar selected from the group consisting of glucose, galactose, rhamnose, xylose, arabinose, and glucuronic acid. The compound represented by the formula(1) is selected from the group consisting of eleutheroside K, hederasaponin B, hederacolchiside E, elatoside A, loniceroside A, loniceroside B and kalopanaxsaponin B.
