Thermal ink jet ink for thermal ink jet printing comprising:(a) a vehicle, which(1) 0,1 to about 30 w -% of at least one organic solvent,wherein the organic solvent is selected from the group consisting of n - pyrrolidone (nmp), 1,3 - (2 - methyl) propanediol, 1,3,5 - (2 - methyl) pentanetriol, tetramethylene sulphone, 3 - methoxy - 3 - methyl butanol and glycerol,(2) 0,1 to about 30 w -% of at least one water-soluble surface-active agent and(3) 0,1 to about 10 w -% of at least a zwitterionic surfactant;(b) about 0,1 to 20 w -% of at least one chemically modified, water-soluble macro molecule chromophores, the preparation of a pigment having covalently bonded functional groups; and(c) the residual water.
