The method involves monitoring the building of a negative pressure in a selective catalytic reaction-catalyst system (1) corresponding to the measured value of a pressure sensor (10) in a rear suction mode of the selective catalytic reaction-catalyst system. The manifold valve (9) is operated for the rear suction mode, such that the medium from the lines of the selective catalytic reaction-catalyst system is sucked off with controlled feed pump (5). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program for monitoring the function of a selective catalytic reaction-catalyst system of an internal combustion engine; and (2) a computer program product comprises a programming code.
