The mechanism i.e. parking lock (10), has a locking pawl (12) pivotable between a release position and a locked position about a rotational axis (Rs). A ratchet wheel (18) is torque-proofly connected with a shaft, and includes ratchet wheel teeth (19) and recesses (20) arranged between the ratchet wheel teeth. The locking pawl includes locking teeth (16) engaged in one of the recesses in the locked position. The ratchet wheel includes a damping element (22) for damping force acting on the ratchet wheel teeth during actuation of the mechanism.
