The gearbox has bearings (3) for mounting shafts (2.1, 2.2) that are arranged within the gearbox. A housing (1) with through-holes (5) is surrounded by a sealing casing that hermetically shields the housing against external environment. Decoupling elements are provided between outer surfaces of the housing and inner surfaces of the casing to avoid or reduce transmission of sound waves from the housing to the casing. The housing is formed as a regular or irregular cage, and the housing and/or the casing are provided with a sound-proof coating. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a gearbox.
