The device (31) has an auxiliary stacking panel (28) forming an auxiliary stack during a non-stop stack changeover of a sheet stack (8). A separating element forms a cavity in flow of sheets (7) that plunges in another sheet stack (27) and is released and promoted by a conveyor system (25). The separating element is laterally retracted in a sheet stack region and is arranged on housing of the device, where the housing is arranged over the auxiliary stacking device. A movable sliding carriage redirects the separating element.
