The method involves detecting individual state values (20-24, 30, 40-50) that represent a state variable for an energy cell element. The individual state values are determined based on modules that simulate characteristics of the energy cell element. A distribution characteristic of distribution function of the individual state values is simulated by a discrete individual state value whose distribution characteristic is approximated to the distribution characteristic of distribution function of the individual state values. The modules are tracked based on the individual state values. An independent claim is also included for a device for executing a method for determining a state of a set of energy cell element of an energy cell device, comprising a calculating unit.
