The method involves supplying fuel to a compression chamber (6) of a cylinder (2) by an inlet (7), where the fuel comprises gas mixture containing noble gas. The fuel is exhausted by an outlet (8), and short time arcs are formed in a pre-chamber (1) by an electrode arrangement (12). Plasma is supplied to the fuel that is compressed in the compression chamber by a channel (26) after expansion. The gas mixture is guided by a closed circuit, where inner surface of the pre-chamber is made of copper. An independent claim is also included for a piston engine.
