The method involves sending unspecific initial key from a backend information system to a head unit of a motor vehicle. The initial key is received and stored in the head unit. Crypto-keys are generated from vehicle information and the initial key by the head unit. An initial connection of the head unit with the information system is produced by using the information. The crypto-keys are computed by the information system using the information and the initial key. A secure communication connection is authenticated between the head unit and the information system using the crypto-keys.
