The method involves connecting an electric vehicle (1) to a charging station (2) during a charging process by a lockable mechanical coupling between a connection (3) of a charging cable (4) and a connection (5) of the charging station. Information is transferred during the charging process based on a communication between the vehicle and the charging station. The transferred information is provided with a signal transmitted from the vehicle to the station for locking and/or unlocking the coupling, where locking and/or unlocking of the coupling is initiated by the signal in the station.
